Yes, you read the title right. Today we are doing a second Sun Room post so everyone get excited. This is dropping just in time to review their new single Kaden’s Van which was released Feb 3rd. Don’t worry this isn’t just about their Suits and Sound (I love alliteration) this time, I’ve had the privilege of attending both their Boston and New York shows this past November and we’re going to talk about it.
A refresher on Sun Room if you’re new to the blog; the band is local to San Diego California and is composed of Luke Asgian on lead vocals and guitar, Max Pinamonti on bass, Ashton Minnich on Guitar, and Gibby (still not sure what his last name is, working on that) on drums. They have a very 60’s surf rock sound reminiscent of the Beach Boys and most recently the Beatles.

Starting off strong let's talk about their new single, Kaden’s Van. It's safe to say after my first listen I was obsessed. It reminded me right away of their song Clementine which is one of my absolute favorites. Listening to them both they’re equally “drum-heavy” which is always a plus with Sun Room songs because Gibby is a beast on the drums. With its catchy chorus and fun lyrics, this is my favorite out of their most recent releases; Cadillac and I Want You. I think this is because they stuck with a “beachier” sound this time around compared to the Beatles-esque sounds they’ve recently been doing. Don’t get me wrong I grew up with the Beatles, but my first introduction to Sun Room was their song Summer’s Here so I’m partial to their more ‘it’s summer I don’t care let's surf’ songs. I suggest everyone go give Kaden’s Van a listen right now. It’s upbeat and catchy and is really helping me get through this New England negative-degree weather.

For Sun Room’s live shows, I saw them open for Louis Tomlinson, saw their Boston show at the Royale, and their NY show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. I will also be seeing them again since they’re opening for Inhaler in March, and I’ve got tickets to both their New York and Boston shows (typical Mia). Seeing Sun Room was a really fun experience, especially in Boston. I loved the venue, and the fans were really nice. Since I usually go to concerts alone, I met some great girls in line and I’ve actually kept in touch with them. The guys did a meet-and-greet VIP experience before the show. They were really nice and a little bit timid, but this checks out considering they have had a really fast rise to fame, and I can be a little too outgoing off the bat, so I won’t count that against them. Overall, the show was great as they played most of their songs and some unreleased ones as well. You can tell they really enjoy what they do, their chemistry on stage is so cute (it’s not cute I just can’t find another word, my bad) and you can tell they’re really in the zone. Sometimes Ashton's knuckles literally bleed, that’s dedication.

Out of both the Boston and New York shows I went to one was a clear winner for me; Boston. I always enjoy any Boston show over New York for many different reasons. Boston shows are always less intimidating and relaxed whereas New York shows almost always have some sort of issues in the crowd either lots of passive aggressiveness or literal fights (I’ll be delving more into the fighting when I post my 5SOS Take My Hand Tour camping experience, so get excited). One of the big differences between both shows was the New York venue had no barricade, it was just me and the end of the stage. This is definitely one of my least favorite pit options as I have nowhere to put my bag except under the stage and put all my faith in the fact that there are no rats or cockroaches down there. The main thing that surprised me about both shows was the fact that in Boston girls started lining up at 11 am and 9 am for New York. I had expected this to a certain extent but when I showed up at 3 pm for both the Boston and New York shows I did have a minor heart attack when I saw a line because I live at the barricade (no shame in it).
I am overall really excited to see Inhaler and Sun Room in March (manifesting Blitzkrieg Bop) and maybe I can even carpool with them from New York to Boston(joke) because I actually have no clue how I’m going to pull off getting to both of those shows. Just because I KNOW people will be lining up early. I hope you guys liked this blog post so see you next week, and don’t forget to stream Kaden’s Van!
